RE-ELECT
Mayor Matt

Working hard for Kennett Square

About Matt

A Dedicated Leader for a Great Small Town.

It has been my profound privilege to serve as your Mayor. Every day, I am reminded of what a truly special community we share—a place where neighbors look out for each other and local government works diligently to improve lives.

My commitment to our town is rooted in 16 years of hands-on leadership overseeing our outstanding police department and ensuring our public safety remains second to none. Before becoming your Mayor, I served as a police officer, giving me unique, real-world experience that has shaped my approach to effective local governance.

I am not just running for re-election; I am running to finish what we started. I am focused on seeing critical, long-term projects—from environmental cleanup to crucial immigration support—through to completion. I believe in transparent action, community collaboration, and delivering tangible results.

Accomplishments as Mayor:
Proven Leadership in Action

As Mayor, I have worked tirelessly to ensure our community remains a safe, vibrant, and welcoming place to live, work, and raise a family.

01

Elevated Public Safety

I have directly overseen the Kennett Square Police Department (KSPD) for 16 years, fostering an environment of strong ethics, integrity, and community-based policing that has made our town one of the safest in the region.

02

Spearheaded Crisis Action

I was the first elected official to issue an emergency resolution demanding State-level solutions for the devastating Phorid Fly Infestation, successfully jump-starting the first official State action to address the problem.

03

Championed Transparency on NVF

I initiated and held two town hall meetings on the crucial NVF plant site cleanup and redevelopment to ensure full public input and transparency on managing hazardous materials and planning the site's future use.

04

Built Community Connections

I have consistently been an accessible and engaged Mayor—meeting with residents and businesses, supporting our local non-profits with grant assistance, actively participating in our parades and events, and representing our community by officiating weddings and issuing proclamations.

05

Secured Fire & EMS Support

I have maintained a strong commitment to the Kennett Regional Fire Department, working closely with them to secure the funding and resources necessary to support the crucial life-saving services provided by their dedicated volunteers and career staff.

Vision for the Next 4 Years: Finishing the Job

1

Immigration Support: Building a Foundation of Assistance

Navigating the immigration process is a significant challenge for many of our neighbors. It is our duty to support residents working toward becoming American citizens or managing complex VISA processes.

  • Direct Legal Support: I am currently enrolled in the Villanova University Law School VIISTA program to become a fully accredited representative. This will allow me to provide free, professional support and representation to immigrants who cannot afford legal services.

  • Non-Profit Foundation: We are actively working to establish a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-cost or no-cost legal representation for our immigrant community.

  • Behind-the-Scenes Advocacy: I will continue to work directly with community leaders to provide crucial support for families and individuals impacted by disruptive and challenging ICE raids.

2

NVF Clean-up and Redevelopment: Transparency & Public Input

The clean-up and future use of the former NVF plant site is a major environmental and economic issue for our town. Our community deserves complete confidence in the process.

  • Aggressive Oversight: I will maintain ongoing, direct contact with the EPA and DEP to ensure the cleanup of PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) is verified as complete and all hazardous materials are correctly managed.

  • Guaranteed Transparency: I am committed to continuing to hold public town hall meetings, bringing in EPA and DEP officials to explain the process and answer every community question about the cleanup and the site's future development.

3

Phorid Fly Infestation: Securing a Permanent Solution

The phorid fly invasion has severely impacted the quality of life and property values for our residents. We must and will solve this problem.

  • Relentless Advocacy: I will continue to use my strong relationships with the Department of Agriculture and the Governor’s office to maintain the necessary pressure until we achieve the relief our community needs.

  • Local Collaboration: I will continue to work directly with pest management control companies and local partners on both the farm and home level to develop and implement effective, lasting solutions.

Continued Commitment to Public Safety & Community

  • Police Leadership Development: As changes in police leadership are likely, I will continue to collaborate with the Chief of Police to mentor and develop the next generation of leaders for our department, ensuring the excellence of the KSPD continues.

  • Fire & EMS Funding: I remain fully committed to working with the Kennett Regional Fire Department to secure the vital funding they need to maintain and grow their expert, life-saving volunteer and career services.

  • Accessibility and Support: My office will remain accessible for meetings, phone calls, and resident support. I will continue to meet with residents, support new businesses, assist with navigating county and state government challenges, and be present at local events.
